Air Belgium to Launch Cargo Flights via Ashgabat

Air Belgium will start cargo flights through Ashgabat International Airport in early August, as Turkmenistan aims to become an air cargo hub between Asia and Europe. The plan was discussed between Turkmen Ambassador Sapar Palvanov and Air Belgium CEO Georges Chachati, focusing on practical aspects and a possible ceremony for the first flight. Air Belgium, which shifted from passenger to cargo operations after financial troubles, was rescued by CMA CGM last year. Despite strict aviation regulations, Turkmenistan is investing in airport infrastructure to attract more international cargo carriers, especially as Central Asia gains importance due to alternative routes avoiding conflict zones.
