Pedestrian hit by drunk driver in Alanya loses life

In a fatal traffic accident that occurred in the Alanya district of Antalya, 54-year-old Sait Döner, who was trying to cross the street, lost his life. The incident took place at around 01.45 on the night of 6 July at the Telekom Kavşağı on the Çevre Yolu. According to the information obtained, the car driven by Y.B. (37) hit Döner, who was alleged to have been trying to cross the road, while in motion. Allegedly, there was no pedestrian crossing in the area where the accident occurred. Thrown several meters by the impact of the collision, the pedestrian was severely injured at the scene.

Following the accident, medical and police teams, who were immediately notified, were dispatched to the scene in a short time. The injured person received first aid at the scene of the accident and was then taken to Alanya Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi by ambulance. However, despite all the interventions and efforts of the doctors at the hospital, Döner could not be saved and lost his life. This tragic incident caused great sorrow in the area as it occurred during the night hours. Authorities launched a comprehensive investigation after the accident.

It emerged that after the accident, the driver Y.B. left the scene with his vehicle. However, after a while, he voluntarily went to the Şehit İbrahim Halil Aksoy Polis Merkezi Amirliği and surrendered. It was learned that in his initial statement, the driver claimed that he went into shock after the accident and therefore panicked and left the scene. In a detailed alcohol test conducted at the police station, the driver was found to have an alcohol level of 0,80 promil. This situation caused the accident to take on a dimension that requires further investigation.

Various administrative sanctions were imposed on the driver, who was confirmed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was fined a total of 71 bin lira for traffic rule violations and drunk driving. In addition, it was announced that his driver's license was temporarily confiscated for 2 yıl 6 ay. After the interrogation and procedures at the police station were completed, Y.B., who was referred to the courthouse, was released under judicial control by the magistrates' court he was brought before. This decision became a subject of public debate.

The judicial investigation launched regarding the incident is being meticulously pursued. Police teams continue their comprehensive examinations to elucidate all aspects of how the accident occurred and any possible other violations. Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the prosecutor's office, security camera footage of the moment of the accident and other evidence in the vicinity have been collected and taken into evaluation. Authorities stated that new developments could be added to the process and additional charges could be brought against the driver depending on the outcome of the investigation. The importance of drivers obeying traffic rules and paying attention to the alcohol limit to prevent such tragic events has come to the fore once again.
