bet365 expands its presence in Canada by entering Alberta's new gaming market

Canada's province of Alberta has officially become the second province to take this step by opening its regulated sports betting and iGaming market. With the opening of the market, the globally recognized betting company bet365 also began operating in Alberta. The company stated that it demonstrates a long-term commitment to Canadian sports fans and offers a responsible gaming platform in collaboration with the province's regulators.

The market entry was shaped by approximately 50 companies paying a 200,000 dollar registration and license fee; however, on the first day of operations, about 20 operators are estimated to be ready to acquire customers. While the Alberta government collects 20 percent of the profits obtained from private operators as tax, the Indigenous peoples (First Nations) in the province have a guarantee to receive two percent of all revenues. The government anticipates a 76 million dollar increase in tax revenues in the first year of the open market.

This development carries the traces of the massive financial successes achieved following the opening of the Ontario market in 2022. In Ontario's first full year, the online betting volume exceeded 35.5 billion dollars, bringing significant economic vitality to the province. Alberta, with a population of over four million and home to teams in major leagues such as the NHL and CFL, is expected to be an extremely attractive market for operators.
