Chain-Reaction Crash Involving Police Vehicle on Beylikdüzü D-100

A chain-reaction traffic accident that occurred during the evening hours on the D-100 Karayolu passing through İstanbul's Beylikdüzü district temporarily disrupted transportation in the area. The incident escalated into a series of chain-reaction collisions triggered by a wheel rim left on the road by a broken-down vehicle. The involvement of a police vehicle in the crash did not increase the scale of the incident or the number of casualties, but it caused traffic to become even more congested. After receiving initial first aid at the scene, an injured driver was transported to the hospital. Following the accident, authorities closed the road to traffic, took security measures, and conducted investigations at the scene.

The primary cause of the accident was a wheel rim left on the road by the driver of a broken-down light commercial vehicle to warn other drivers. Around 20.00 in the evening, the commercial vehicle traveling in the Avcılar direction suddenly broke down, forcing the driver to stop in the left lane. Drivers behind the broken-down vehicle had to slow down after noticing the unexpectedly stopped vehicle late. Meanwhile, the wheel rim left on the road to warn others created a dangerous obstacle in this heavily congested section. An electric vehicle rear-ending a car that slammed on the brakes after noticing the rim was the first action that triggered the crash.

Due to the rain and the wet road conditions, the stopping distance increased, and drivers were unable to prevent the chain-reaction crash from spreading rapidly. A police vehicle, failing to notice the slowing and stopping vehicles after the initial collision, also rear-ended the electric car. The involvement of the police vehicle made the accident even more complex and made it harder for traffic police to intervene. It was determined that the injured driver was trapped in the electric vehicle and was left in distress at the scene. The crash brought traffic in the area to a complete standstill and caused long queues.

Emergency medical and police teams, quickly dispatched to the scene, extracted the injured driver and provided initial treatment. During the checks conducted by medical teams, it was determined that the driver of the electric vehicle was not in life-threatening condition but required medical treatment. The injured individual was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital, where they underwent various examinations. Police teams took statements from the other drivers involved in the crash and increased security measures at the scene. To ensure the safe flow of traffic on the D-100 Karayolu, single-lane traffic was provided.

After the vehicles involved in the crash were removed from the road with tow trucks, traffic flow on the D-100 Karayolu gradually returned to normal. Experts emphasize that drivers need to be more careful and follow safety instructions to prevent such accidents. Properly marking broken-down vehicles and not leaving dangerous objects on the road are of critical importance in preventing these types of crashes. Additionally, increasing the following distance at night and in poor weather conditions can significantly reduce the risk of chain-reaction accidents. This incident once again highlighted the issues regarding traffic safety and how rapidly chain-reaction crashes can escalate.
