Fatal traffic accident in Çankırı: 3 dead, 4 injured

In the traffic accident that occurred in the Kızılırmak district of Çankırı over the weekend, 3 people lost their lives and 4 people were injured and taken to the hospital. The horrific accident occurred in the Bozkır village location on the Çankırı-Kızılırmak highway as a result of a head-on collision between two vehicles. Due to the severity of the collision, both vehicles veered off the road and rolled into a ravine, causing significant material damage at the scene.

İzzet Gümüşbuğa, the 43-year-old driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident, and the child passenger Hasan Salih Gümüşbuğa, who was only 12 years old, died at the scene due to the impact of the collision. Remzi Akdemir, the 75-year-old driver of the other vehicle, was taken to Çankırı State Hospital with injuries but could not be saved despite the intense efforts of doctors and lost his life. The tragic incident put security forces and health teams in the region on high alert.

The other passengers, Çiğdem G., Abdullah G., Esma Betül G. and Muhammet Emir Gümüşbuğa, who were injured and trapped in the car, were removed from the vehicle as a result of the intense work of the fire crews arriving at the scene. The intervention made to rescue the trapped injured people revealed once again how severe the incident was. The injured were taken to Çankırı State Hospital by ambulances for their initial interventions and received treatment.

Immediately after the accident, gendarmerie and health teams dispatched to the area conducted investigations by taking extensive security measures at the scene. While the cause of the accident involving a passenger car and a light commercial vehicle remains a matter of curiosity, an investigation has been launched. Traffic flow on the highway was kept under control for a while and the vehicles involved in the accident were removed from the road to complete the investigation process.

As this tragic event remains as a bitter reminder of traffic safety and how painful accidents can be, the bodies of the deceased were released from the forensic medicine department to be handed over to their families. While an official statement is awaited from hospital authorities regarding whether the injured have life-threatening conditions, a mournful atmosphere prevails in the region. Authorities issued warnings to drivers to comply with traffic rules and be careful, calling for similar tragedies not to be experienced.
