Mandatory Deposit System for Çenesuyu: 1 TL Increase Per Bottle

Within the scope of environmental regulations carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Deposit Management System (DOA) has officially entered into force throughout Turkey as of July 1, 2026. The primary objective of this system is to prevent used packaging waste from harming nature and to increase recycling rates. Within the framework of the system, it has been determined that an additional cost of 1 TL will be reflected in the unit prices of packaged products subject to deposit, as required by the conditions set by the Environment Agency.

As a result of this national regulation, Çenesuyu A.Ş., a subsidiary of Derince Municipality located in the Derince district of Kocaeli province, has made an update to product prices. In order to ensure full compliance with the entered legal regulations, the company has been obliged to increase the price by 1 TL for each bottle in waters put on sale as of Saturday, July 4. This increase stems entirely from legal obligations and is a development independent of company policy.

The logic of the operation of the Deposit Management System is based on consumers being able to recover this additional fee they pay. Citizens can recover the deposit fees by delivering the packaging to designated return points instead of throwing them into nature or landfills after consuming their drinks. This method stands out as an effective economic incentive mechanism in preventing the uncontrolled spread of waste into the environment.

In the announcement of Çenesuyu A.Ş. regarding the issue, it is emphasized that the application is a major step towards contributing to environmental sustainability. Although the price increase appears as a short-term cost increase on the consumer side, it is actually an investment for a clean environment in the long run and bringing recyclable resources into the economy. The municipal affiliate aims to both comply with legislation and support environmental awareness by managing the process in accordance with legal requirements.

On the other hand, with this application, other manufacturers across the country are also expected to make similar price updates. Deposit packaging will support the economic cycle by providing a significant amount of raw materials to the recycling sector and assist in minimizing environmental pollution. For the success of the system, it is of critical importance that consumers return the packaging to recover the money they deposited. In this way, it is planned to create a social awareness regarding the prevention of waste and the protection of natural resources.
