2 Suspects Caught in Yunus Teams' Drug Operation in Edirne Uzunköprü

In successful operations conducted as part of the fight against drugs by security forces in the Uzunköprü district of Edirne, two separate suspects were caught. Drugs were seized during searches carried out in routine inspections by the Motorcycle Police Teams (Yunus) affiliated with the District Police Department. It was reported that judicial proceedings were initiated against both suspects regarding the incidents. It was emphasized that the teams continue their inspections uninterruptedly to ensure peace and security in the region. Such operations have once again demonstrated the determination of local security forces against illegal drug trade and use.

The first incident occurred on Topraklık Street in Kavak Neighborhood. While patrolling the area, police officers stopped an individual named C.P.K., whose situation and behavior aroused their suspicion, and checked their ID. Upon conducting a body search of the suspect, it was discovered that they had three separate bags on them. Upon examination, it was understood that these bags contained a total of 9,3 grams of drugs soaked into tobacco. The detained suspect was handed over to the Crime Prevention and Investigation Bureau teams to complete their procedures.

An official judicial process was initiated against C.P.K. on the charge of 'purchasing, accepting, or possessing drugs or stimulants for use.' Under the Turkish Penal Code, this offense is defined as a reprehensible crime involving the possession of drugs for personal use. Security officials stated that the necessary preparations were being made to refer the suspect to the courthouse after taking their statement. The incident served as an important example showing that police teams combat crimes not only upon complaints but also through their own initiative and vigilance. The investigation was deepened by taking security cameras and tips from local residents into account during this process.

The second incident took place on Hafız İsmail Street in Atatürk Neighborhood, within the same district. Another suspect named H.A., who was riding their bicycle, was stopped as a result of the vigilant work of the Yunus teams again. During the body search of H.A., 1,5 grams of drugs, again mixed and soaked into tobacco, were seized. Although this amount was smaller, it was noted that it constituted a crime in terms of the act of possessing an illegal substance. A judicial investigation was initiated against this suspect as well on the charge of 'possessing drugs for use', similar to the first incident.

Authorities of the Uzunköprü District Police Department issued a statement informing the public about the matter. In the official statement made, it was expressed that the principle of zero tolerance against drug trafficking and use is maintained. Furthermore, it was emphasized that inspections will be increased and will be continuous in order to prevent such illegal activities that threaten the future and health of the local population. The consecutive occurrence of the two successful operations proves how active the local police force is in the field. Officials added that it is of great importance for citizens to support the struggle by reporting such situations to the police.
