Indian Parliament Paralyzed for Second Time Due to Opposition Protests

Proceedings in both houses of the Indian Parliament were disrupted again for the second consecutive day of the Monsoon Session due to protests by opposition lawmakers. The opposition shouted slogans from the moment they assembled to raise the alleged NEET exam paper leak, police intervention against students in the capital, and allegations of embezzled Ram Temple donations. These protests caused successive adjournments throughout the day in both the Lok Sabha (Lower House) and the Rajya Sabha (Upper House).

In the Lower House, lawmakers insisted on an urgent discussion on irregularities in the education system and police violence against students. Speaker Om Birla assured the lawmakers that they would be given an opportunity to express their concerns, but stated that the rules must be followed. Consequently, the house was forced to adjourn several times until a decision to adjourn for the day at 14:00. In the Upper House, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge's attempt to raise an agenda item was met with counter-slogans from the ruling side, and the session was ended shortly after.

Prior to the day's sessions, an opposition delegation led by Rahul Gandhi met with the Speaker to request a detailed discussion regarding the exam crisis. Gandhi accused the government of failing in accountability, emphasizing that parliament must address issues concerning the youth of the country. Following these developments, analysts assessed that the deep political confrontation between the government and the opposition had paralyzed legislative activities in the house.
