ISWAP Attacks Military Base in Nigeria: School, Hospital, and Police Station Burned

It was reported that Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants launched an attack on a military base in the town of Logomani, located in the Ngala local government area of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria. It was announced that one soldier lost their life during the attack and numerous military vehicles were rendered unusable. The attacked military base is located in an area known as a Forward Operating Base (FOB), which holds a strategic position for security operations in the region. Such attacks are of great significance as they demonstrate the ongoing terrorism threat in the region.

In a statement from the Nigerian Army, it was noted that the attack occurred on Tuesday night and that the troops of Operation HADIN KAI quickly brought the situation under control. This operation is a large-scale security initiative conducted by the Nigerian military and other security units against terrorist organizations in the region. Operation spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Goni stated that the militants managed to breach the base's walls but were repelled following a fierce clash. Goni added that reinforcement troops were deployed to the area and that operations are continuing relentlessly to track down the militants.

Although military authorities emphasize that the repulsion was successful, accounts from local residents reveal the scale of the incident in a different light. Local sources, who wished to remain anonymous, claim that following the clash, militants entered the town and targeted civilian areas. According to accounts, the militants set fire to the police station, a primary healthcare center, and two classrooms of a school. During the attack, numerous civilians were forced to flee the town in panic and seek refuge in safer areas. Although this information cannot be fully verified by independent sources, it highlights the extent of the trauma experienced by the local population.

Immediately after the attack, the chairman of the Ngala local government, Mala Ngala, visited the town and conducted inspections at the scene. Ngala assessed the damage by inspecting the burned police station, health clinic, and school buildings on site. The local government chairman stated that he would collect all reports from the local residents and present them to the Borno State Government, and that he would take steps for emergency repair work. Ngala also urged the residents to remain calm and fully cooperate with the security forces, promising that necessary measures would be taken to prevent a recurrence of the events.

This recent attack has once more proven how current and dangerous the terrorism threat remains in the rural areas of northern Borno State. Organizations such as ISWAP and Boko Haram periodically carry out acts of violence to maintain their presence in the region and weaken state authority. The Nigerian military emphasizes its achievements by announcing the rescue of kidnapped individuals and the surrender of group members in recent weeks. However, experts point out that the destructive actions of terrorist organizations have severely disrupted the infrastructure and civilian life in the region, and that more comprehensive strategies are needed to achieve lasting peace.
