Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard convicted of sexual assault again

Canadian fashion giant Peter Nygard has been found guilty of sexual assault and forcible confinement. The 84-year-old Nygard's sentence will be determined at a later date. The court revealed that the defendant lured an 18-year-old woman to his penthouse apartment in the late 1990s with the promise of making her a model, and then imprisoned and abused her in his bedroom.

Nygard is the founder of Nygard International, a company he managed for decades and left shortly before it went bankrupt in 2020. The convicted businessman is already serving a prison sentence for similar crimes. In 2023, he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for abusing four different women and was described as a "sexual predator" by the presiding judge at the time.

After the legal proceedings in Canada are completed, Nygard is planned to be extradited to the United States. Among the charges against him in the US are numerous counts of sexual abuse and human trafficking. While the defendant denies all charges, his lawyer stated that his client will not appeal the decision, but they will request a postponement of the extradition process to the US due to his advanced age and health problems.
