Civil servant salary coefficient changed: Increased rates and hikes finalized

The announcement of June inflation data by Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu (TÜİK) brought a direct update to the incomes of millions of workers and retirees. This data, which plays a role in determining increases for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, formed the basis for a %13,52 hike for civil servants and civil servant retirees. This rate necessitated an increase not only in salaries but also in various aids and payments calculated based on these salaries. The change in the civil servant salary coefficient signals a comprehensive arrangement closely affecting not only civil servants financially but also other groups connected to the social safety net.

As a result of the calculations, a noticeable increase was made to the severance pay ceiling. This ceiling amount, previously applied as 63 thousand 948,74 lira, was raised to 72 thousand 594,6 lira with the increase in the coefficient. This ceiling, which holds an important place in the business world and employee rights, is significant in that it determines the upper limit of workers' severance pay rights. However, updates were also made to the amounts of family aid provided to public employees. The aid amount paid for a non-working spouse was increased from 3 thousand 154 lira to 3 thousand 580 lira, while the amount paid for children aged 0-6 was raised from 693 lira to 786 lira, and for those over 6 years of age from 346 lira to 392 lira. The total family aid amount a civil servant with a non-working spouse and two children aged 0-6 will receive also increased from 4 thousand 542 lira to 5 thousand 156 lira.

Updates regarding social assistance and support payments were not negatively affected by this general increase either. The monthly payments of citizens receiving 65-age pensions (old age pension) were increased from 6 thousand 393 lira to 7 thousand 257 lira, providing financial relief to elderly individuals. The situation was no different for payments directed towards disabled citizens; the monthly pensions of those with a %40-69 disability report were increased from 5 thousand 103 lira to 5 thousand 792 lira, while those with a disability of %70 and above saw their pensions rise from 7 thousand 655 lira to 8 thousand 689 lira. The aid amount for patients with Tuberculosis or SSPE, evaluated under health support, was raised from 13 thousand 878 lira to 15 thousand 754 lira. The support for citizens caring for their relatives through home care assistance was also increased from 13 thousand 877 lira to 15 thousand 753 lira, expanding the amount of resources reaching those in need.

SED (Social and Economic Support) payments, which aim to support families in their children's educational lives, were increased separately according to educational levels. The amount paid for children receiving preschool education was raised from 6 thousand 592 lira to 7 thousand 483 lira, and for children studying in primary school from 9 thousand 889 lira to 11 thousand 225 lira. The payment determined for secondary school students was increased from 10 thousand 548 lira to 11 thousand 974 lira, while the aid for children receiving higher education reached 13 thousand 471 lira from 11 thousand 867 lira. These increases are considered an important step to contribute to family budgets in light of rising educational costs and economic conditions.

Within the scope of the financial regulations, an update was also seen regarding the paid military service payment. The paid military service fee was raised to 472 thousand 653 lira from 416 thousand 361 lira with a %13,52 increase. It was stated that the increase in the civil servant salary coefficient played a decisive role in determining this amount. TÜİK data and the changing coefficients based on it directly affect many economic items, from the salaries of public employees to social assistance payments, from military service fees to the severance pay ceiling. These new amounts, which entered into force as of July, stand out as a reflection of the economic balance under inflationary pressures on the public side.
