Egyptian Foreign Minister and US President's Senior Advisor Discussed Regional Developments

Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with US President's Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos. During the call held on Saturday, July 11, the recent developments in regional situations were discussed in detail. The main agenda items of the meeting included the current crises and political situations in Sudan, Libya, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Both sides emphasized the importance of international cooperation to ensure stability in these critical regions. Such high-level contacts stand out as part of efforts to resolve crises in the Middle East and Africa through diplomacy.

The Sudan issue was evaluated as a priority topic during the call, and Egypt's uninterrupted support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and institutions of this country was reaffirmed. Minister Abdelatty stated that a comprehensive and inclusive political process, fully under Sudan's own control, is needed to end the internal conflicts in Sudan. Egypt maintains a stance in favor of strengthening national institutions to prevent the crisis in its neighbor Sudan from spreading to regional security. It was stated that the aim is to reach a lasting solution that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people for peace, security, and development. In this regard, it was agreed that all parties should avoid steps that would weaken Sudan's state authority.

The political and security situations in Libya also constituted a significant part of the phone call between the two figures. The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized his country's unwavering support for Libya's unity and solidarity, stating that the country should not be allowed to be divided into north and south. Furthermore, a call was made to unify national institutions and the state structure in Libya, highlighting the importance of a dialogue conducted entirely by the Libyans themselves. It was noted that the ultimate goal of this political process is to take the country to simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible. The Minister also added that they welcome the efforts of the US and the United Nations to resolve the Libyan crisis.

The conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and their regional implications were also brought to the table during the meeting. Egypt declared its full support for international and regional mediation efforts to establish lasting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region. Minister Abdelatty emphasized that merely stopping armed conflicts would not be sufficient, and a holistic approach encompassing political, economic, and security dimensions is required. It was expressed that focus should be placed on regional reconstruction and sustainable development projects once peace is achieved. In this context, it was agreed that early intervention and comprehensive solution models are of vital importance so that crises in the African continent do not threaten global security.

In the final part of the meeting, mutual assessments were made, and Massad Boulos praised the key role Egypt plays in ensuring regional security and resolving crises. The US administration stated that it finds Egypt's stabilizing diplomacy, which contributes to political processes in the Middle East and Africa, important and appreciates these efforts. Boulos also stated that consultation and coordination should be increased between the two countries on all issues of mutual interest. It is aimed that the US and Egypt will continue to work together to end armed conflicts and resolve humanitarian crises in Africa. Maintaining high-level contacts is interpreted as an indication that diplomatic channels will be kept open for regional issues in the upcoming period as well.
