- Bhutan is preparing to address the gaps in its early warning systems.
The severe flood experienced in Nepal, also affecting Bhutan's water resources, highlighted the inadequacy of the country's early warning systems. Experts emphasize that water can reach distant areas via flow even without rain falling directly in a location. This shows that Bhutan also needs to increase its preparedness against similar risks.
Bhutan officials plan to increase investments and strengthen inter-departmental data sharing to address the gaps in the systems. Additionally, flood risks related to climate change in the region are expected to rise. Experts say that expanding early warning networks and increasing community education are needed.
Post-flood emergency response teams continue relief efforts in affected areas. As long-term solutions, infrastructure improvements and water management strategies are recommended. The event brought to the agenda the importance of regional cooperation on water security and disaster preparedness in the Himalayan region.
