67-year-old man found dead at sea in Stavros, Selanik

In a tragic incident at the Stavros beach in the Selanik region of Yunanistan, a 67-year-old swimmer who went missing in the sea lost his life. The incident came to light yesterday at noon when the Authorized Coast Guard Search and Rescue Center reported a missing person case in the area. Teams rapidly dispatched to the region pulled the elderly man from the water unconscious after an intensive search effort. Despite all interventions, it was reported that the man could not be resuscitated and lost his life.

The sea area where the incident occurred is located in an area known as Yeni Kerdilya (Nea Kerdylia), close to Stavros. Upon receiving the news of the incident, the region's Coast Guard units launched a massive mobilization and arrived in the area with all their resources. Considering the gravity of the situation, volunteer search and rescue networks in the region were also immediately activated, preparing a comprehensive operation. The swift and coordinated work of the teams was of vital importance in order not to lose time at sea.

While Coast Guard patrol vehicles arrived at the scene, volunteer networks in the area were also called for support. A speedboat carrying a professional diver and a lifeguard was sent to the scene, while two fishing boats in the vicinity were also mobilized to support the search efforts. In addition, members of the local search and rescue team in the region actively participated in this large-scale operation. All these teams scanned a vast area in the sea within minutes to find the missing swimmer.

Following intensive search efforts, the missing swimmer was found unconscious by a civilian and pulled out of the water. Immediately afterward, first aid was administered to the individual by volunteers and professionals at the scene, but unfortunately, no positive outcome was achieved. The Ulusal Acil Yardım Merkezi (EKAB) ambulance dispatched to the scene took charge of the elderly man. The 67-year-old man, whose life remained in danger, was transported to Serez (Serres) Devlet Hastanesi, the nearest major hospital in the region, in the hope of being resuscitated.

Despite all medical interventions performed at Serez Devlet Hastanesi, it was officially confirmed that the 67-year-old swimmer had lost his life. A comprehensive investigation has been launched regarding the incident, aiming to clarify the process. The Stavros İkinci Sahil Güvenlik Bölümü, affiliated with the İerissos Liman Başkanlığı, which is conducting the investigation, ordered an autopsy and nihilation procedure to determine the exact cause of the incident. This tragic event once again highlighted how crucial it is to observe safety and swimming rules in the sea during the summer months.
