Chilean government aims to create 50 thousand new jobs and promote women's employment before October

Chilean Minister of Economy and Mining Daniel Mas announced a new action plan called 'Modo Empleo' to combat high unemployment, which affects approximately 950 thousand people, following the country's 12 years of stagnation. The government's priority goal is to create 50 thousand new job positions before October in order to revitalize employment. Various ministries, as well as governors and municipalities, are supporting this plan, which covers different segments of society.

At the center of the plan is a hiring incentive for 25 thousand people, for which applications will start on July 15. This incentive provides support equivalent to 50 percent of the minimum wage for four months for new hires, while special support is offered for women in order to increase women's employment, which is considered one of the most critical dimensions of unemployment. The incentive rate for female workers is increased to 60 percent of the minimum wage.

As part of the employment package, an investment of approximately 20 billion Chilean pesos is planned to finance 137 different local programs across the country. Minister Mas also stated that the current emergency measures will be integrated starting from October with the growth in sectors such as construction and tourism. The Chilean government is also trying to pass the National Reconstruction project, which it describes as the largest economic reform in the last 40 years, despite some disagreements in the opposition.
