Sony RX10 V Officially Unveiled; Pre-orders in Malaysia Coming Soon

Sony has finally officially announced the RX10 V, the long-awaited successor to its popular bridge camera. Released after a gap of nearly eight years, the new model retains the 24-600mm equivalent zoom lens that made its predecessor, the RX10 IV, a favorite among professional photographers. However, the camera doesn't just re-release old hardware; it arrives with numerous significant upgrades in autofocus, video recording, and overall performance. These innovations aim to elevate both the photography and video productivity of the device to the highest level. Pre-order dates for the Malaysia market are also expected to be announced shortly.

Looking at the details of the device's imaging hardware, the RX10 V offers a combination of a 20.1-megapixel 1-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor and a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm equivalent f/2.4-4.0 lens. Although Sony chose to carry over this core imaging hardware from the previous generation, a serious modernization has been made in the brain of the device. The addition of a new generation BIONZ XR image processor and a camera-specific AI processing unit creates a massive leap in the device's speed and smart features. As a result, autofocus and scene recognition capabilities have reached a much more advanced level compared to predecessor models. Thanks to this hardware, users will be able to take much faster and more accurate shots.

On the design side, Sony has reshaped the exterior of the RX10 V to resemble its current Alpha series mirrorless cameras more closely. Grip comfort is increased thanks to a deepened grip area, while the user experience is made practical with updated control dials and a dedicated autofocus joystick. Additionally, the device offers users Sony's most up-to-date menu interface. These innovations allow both professional users and advanced hobbyists to control the device more efficiently. The electronic viewfinder now uses an OLED panel with 3.69 million dots resolution, while the resolution of the rear 3-inch LCD screen has been increased to 1.62 million dots.
