Mobilization for Awareness in Mosques for a 'Drug-Free Country' in Syria

An important awareness activity was carried out in Syria's Kuneytire province as part of the fight against drug use. As part of this comprehensive campaign conducted in different parts of the country, a public seminar was organized by the Mosque Affairs Presidency, affiliated with the Kuneytire Endowments Directorate. The event, which took place on Friday with high participation from the local community, was organized at the Ali bin Ebu Talib Mosque in the village of Meshere in the northern countryside of the province. Organized under the main theme of 'Drug-Free Syria,' this seminar aimed to create religious and social awareness against the problem of addiction in society. Such events stand out as a concrete reflection of the state institutions' efforts to inform and protect the public.

The destructive effects of drugs on individuals, families, and society were addressed in all dimensions at the conference. Officials highlighted the dangers of these substances by elaborating on their religious, social, and health-related harms. It was emphasized that addiction is not merely a physical health issue, but a destruction that severs family ties and disrupts social peace. The speakers addressed this issue by stressing the importance of increasing social sensitivity and strengthening moral values. Additionally, it was stated that families, religious institutions, and educational organizations have significant responsibilities in protecting the youth from these dangers.

Beder en-Neda, Director of Mosque Affairs at the Kuneytire Endowments Directorate, made important statements to the SANA news agency regarding the matter. En-Neda stated that such awareness efforts are conducted to strengthen the enlightening and educational role of mosques in society. The Director emphasized that the primary goal of these events is to create a preventive culture in society, stating that it is essential for the public to be actively involved in this process. He noted that families and youth must be protected and not left vulnerable to the dangers of drugs. The official added that, as a result, these steps will solidify the overall security of society and make significant contributions to the stability of the country.

This local-level seminar stands out as just a small part of a much broader national strategy implemented across Syria. The Syrian Endowments Ministry established an information network covering all mosques across the country and launched a series of events under the name 'Drug-Free Syria.' This comprehensive initiative aims to utilize the influence of clerics and sacred spaces in the fight against drug trafficking and addiction. The Ministry emphasizes that legal measures alone are not sufficient, and that public awareness and the support of moral values are crucial. This process, during which educational materials are distributed and seminars are frequently held, represents a spirit of nationwide mobilization for preventing addiction.

Underlying these intensive awareness efforts conducted through endowments is a major national campaign recently launched by the government. The national campaign 'Drug-Free Syria,' jointly organized by the Ministries of Interior and Health and introduced under the direct auspices of Head of State Ahmed eş-Şara, was officially launched last month. Announced with a grand ceremony at the Konferans Sarayı in Şam, this state policy involves both combating drugs and promising treatment and rehabilitation services for addicts. Prepared with the vision of ensuring security and protecting public health during the difficult periods the country is going through, this strategy requires the coordinated work of different ministries. Officials maintain their belief that by eliminating the impact of drugs, Syria will attain a healthier and safer future.
