Tele2 and Altel Fail to Achieve Even Half of 4G Targets in Jambıl Region

In the project initiated to strengthen mobile communication infrastructure in the Jambıl Region of Kazakhstan, it has been observed that the operators Tele2 and Altel have fallen significantly behind the set targets. According to the roadmap, the plan was to improve 4G connection quality and complete infrastructure upgrades in 68 different settlements. However, according to data obtained by a Kazinform agency correspondent, it has been reported that results have only been achieved in 28 settlements so far. This situation clearly reveals that the process of the local population gaining access to uninterrupted and fast mobile internet is progressing much slower than expected. New consultations between local administrations and company officials to accelerate the project are on the agenda.

It is evaluated that logistical challenges and technical issues may have a significant share in falling so far behind the determined roadmap. In particular, the mountainous and scattered geographical structure of the Jambıl Region can directly affect the installation processes of telecommunications equipment. Winter conditions and possible supply chain disruptions may also have prevented the materials required for the installation of 4G base stations from arriving on time. Despite the intense efforts of the companies, the large surface area of the region stands out as one of the main factors making it difficult to adhere to the planned schedule. Since communication infrastructure investments involve comprehensive and multi-stage processes, such delays are a frequently encountered technical reality in the telecom sector.

It is known that in the 28 completed settlements, a higher quality and uninterrupted mobile communication experience is now being had. In these regions that have gained next-generation 4G infrastructure, residents can access various digital services more efficiently via fast internet. In addition, the improved connection quality creates an important safety net for critical needs such as emergency calls and online communication. The role of quality mobile internet in revitalizing local economic activities and the digitalization of small businesses has reached an indisputable dimension. Nevertheless, it is seen that these positive developments do not fully meet the great expectations created for the remaining 40 points of the project.

When the infrastructure works will be completed in the remaining 40 settlements within the scope of the project is among the topics most wondered by the region's residents. It is expected that large operators such as Tele2 and Altel will allocate additional resources to fulfill their commitments in the roadmap as soon as possible and restructure their work schedule. Relevant state institutions and regulatory authorities also take responsibility for closely monitoring the process and conducting necessary audits. The local population demands that authorities take faster steps to eliminate inequalities in mobile communication quality and close the digital divide.
