Chain accident on TEM Otoyolu: 5 injured, traffic returned to normal

A traffic accident that occurred in the evening on TEM Otoyolu, one of Istanbul's important transit routes, negatively affected transportation in the region for a while. In the incident that took place around 17.00 in the Büyükçavuşlu location in the Büyükçekmece direction, three vehicles traveling in the same direction collided for an as yet unknown reason. Due to the nature of the accident being a chain traffic accident, damage occurred to the vehicles and material damage and debris remained on the road. Immediately after the incident, the authorities were informed with the notification of other drivers using the area and citizens around. Due to the severity and complex structure of the accident, a large number of security and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.

Fire, emergency health services and gendarmerie units were among the first intervention teams to reach the scene. Gendarmerie teams managed the traffic flow in a controlled manner in order to prevent a situation that would block the course of the vehicles in the section where the accident occurred and to minimize the risk of a second accident. Health teams, on the other hand, took action to determine the condition of the drivers and passengers who were stuck in the vehicles or suffered a blow on the spot. As a result of the initial checks and examinations, it was determined that a total of 5 people in the vehicles involved in the accident were injured, although not life-threatening. Each of the injured was taken to surrounding hospitals by ambulances after the emergency interventions at the scene and was taken under treatment.

After the transfer of the injured to the hospital was completed, work was started to clean the accumulated vehicles and parts on the highway. The process of removing the three vehicles involved in the accident from the road was carried out by the tow trucks called to the scene. The process of cleaning the vehicles from the road was of critical importance for the reduction of traffic density on this section of TEM Otoyolu and the return of transportation to normal. As a result of the meticulous work of the teams, the obstacles on the road were removed and the traffic flow, which was previously provided in a controlled manner, was completely restored to its former state. Thus, the drivers were able to continue their journey after the delays on the route.

An official investigation process has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the accident and to clarify all the details of the incident. The authorized gendarmerie teams made the necessary examinations at the place where the accident occurred and prepared a photo report. In particular, it is being investigated whether there are factors such as weather conditions, the condition of the road, mechanical components of the vehicles or driver errors behind this collision, which occurred for an unknown reason. As a result of the investigation, the fault status and responsibilities will be determined and necessary legal actions will be carried out. Such examinations are of great importance in terms of preventing similar accidents and ensuring traffic safety.

TEM Otoyolu, where the accident took place, is a busy artery carrying cargo and passengers in Istanbul traffic, so the impact of such events on general traffic is great. In particular, disruptions occurring at a time like 17.00, coinciding with the busy hours of the day, can cause significant time losses for drivers. However, thanks to the rapid intervention of the teams, a long-term closure was prevented and the traffic flow was regulated in a short time. The stable health condition of the injured is recorded as a promising development in terms of the incident not turning into a bigger disaster. Authorities are warning drivers again to comply with speed limits and pay attention to the distance between vehicles on highway use.
