In the image manipulated by Trump, an illusion was created where Italian Prime Minister Meloni stood in front of the US President with a confused expression. The note written in capital letters over the photo, "Restrictive measures are needed," was interpreted by journalists as an absurd scenario and a mocking warning. The Italian government, for its part, chose to remain silent, ignoring the visual, and did not feel the need to provide any official response.

Trump's statements in recent weeks also targeted Meloni's political power domestically. Claiming that the Italian Prime Minister was not performing well in her country, Trump suggested that she was rapidly losing popularity. Moreover, these rhetoric were among the factors that further increased the diplomatic tension experienced before the NATO Summit. A while ago, the US President started a new controversy by claiming that Meloni "begged" to take a photo with him on the sidelines of the G7 summit. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, who is expected to accompany the Italian delegation at the NATO Summit in Ankara, tried to defuse the tension. In his statement yesterday evening, Crosetto emphasized that despite everything, maintaining relations between the two countries is of great importance. In his remarks, he stated that preserving the strength of Transatlantic ties should be a priority rather than personal political disputes. However, analysts continue to question whether the crisis between Meloni and Trump will be fully resolved in the short term.
