Türkiye strongly condemned the deadly attack in Şam

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye issued a harsh condemnation regarding the attack that resulted in casualties in the Hicaz region of Şam, the capital of Syria. The official statement was shared with the international community and the people of Syria via the X platform (formerly Twitter). In the statement, it was emphasized that the attack poses a clear threat to the stability of all of Syria, not limited to the targeted region. It was stated that this act of violence aims to undermine efforts to preserve the country's territorial integrity and achieve peace.

In the published condemnation, it was noted that the main goal of the actors behind such attacks is to prevent the establishment of permanent peace and security in Syria. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the dark intentions of those trying to disrupt social order should be exposed, while sharing the pain of the humans who became martyrs. Attention was drawn to the potential of such sabotage attempts aiming for the country's normalization process to darken Syria's future. Concerns were expressed that such provocative actions during a period when Syria is going through difficult processes could also weaken the search for a political solution.

In Türkiye's statement, a message of full support was given to the Syrian people, and it was emphasized that the will of the people is central in steps to be taken to prevent such attacks. It was stated that those trying to disrupt public order and create an environment of chaos would fail against the solidarity of the Syrian people. It was emphasized that the solidarity of the people is the strongest response against external interventions and attempts to cause internal unrest, pointing to the importance of social resistance. In this context, it was argued that the determination of Syrians to decide their own future is the best answer.

According to recent news and information passed by local sources, unfortunately 5 people lost their lives in this treacherous attack organized in the Hicaz region. Due to the intensity of the attack, great panic was experienced at and around the scene, and the wounded were immediately referred to hospitals for treatment. While it was reported that 16 of the injured were wounded in various degrees and their health conditions were closely monitored, there is concern that the number of dead and injured may increase. After the incident, it was stated that security forces launched a large-scale investigation in the region and operations were ongoing to capture the attackers.

While Türkiye continues to follow these developments in Syria closely, it also wants the issue to be evaluated in the context of international law and human rights violations. The view is defended that permanent peace to be established in the region depends on the complete end of violence and terrorist acts, and therefore the ceasefire must be consolidated. It was also highlighted by the Ministry that this last attack in Şam is seen as an initiative that detonates solution processes, thus causing a deepening of the humanitarian crisis.
