The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, meeting in Vienna, decided by consensus to close Syria's nuclear file dating back to the Assad regime era. The 2011 non-compliance resolution was removed from the agenda in recognition of the new Syrian administration's transparency and cooperation.
Syria will now be subject to routine safeguards inspections under the NPT like other non-nuclear-weapon states. IAEA Director General Grossi will inform the Board upon completion of excavations at Deir ez-Zor; the decision and report will be sent to the UN Security Council.
Türkiye's Permanent Representative to Vienna, Ambassador Mustafa Kibaroğlu, congratulated Syria, commended its normalization efforts, and emphasized that Türkiye's support will continue on all platforms.
