Zelenskiy: At least 6 people killed, 33 injured in latest Russian attacks

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskiy announced the heavy toll of Russia's latest attacks on different regions of the country. According to official statements, the death toll from the attacks rose to at least 6, while over 33 people were injured. The attacks targeted residential areas, causing major destruction and leading to concern and grief across Ukraine. Zelenskiy stressed that such attacks serve as both a military and psychological terrorism element and must be stopped.

The deadliest part of the attack occurred in the city of Sumi in northeastern Ukraine. Zelenskiy announced on social media that Russia targeted a residential area in Sumi with guided bombs. The attack hit an apartment building, largely destroying it and trapping people under the rubble. Initial reports stated that 4 people, including a child, were killed, and 27 people, including 6 children, were injured. The condition of many of the injured remains serious, and search and rescue efforts continue night and day to rescue citizens trapped in the rubble.

Russian military attacks were not limited to Sumi; the city of Zaporijya in the south was also the target of an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). According to Zelenskiy, 2 civilians were killed and 6 people, including a child, were injured as a result of the UAV attack in Zaporijya. The attack hitting a central point in the city caused panic among the public. Additionally, it was stated that settlements in the Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Donetsk regions were under heavy fire by Russia, with material damage and casualties increasing in these regions. These large-scale attacks are considered a tactic causing strain on Ukraine's defense lines.

Amid the humanitarian crisis and escalating violence, President Zelenskiy called on the international community for concrete action. Zelenskiy stated that the international community must not remain silent and argued that it is vital for partners to exert serious diplomatic and economic pressure on Russia to end this terror. Zelenskiy emphasized that the only language Russia understands is the stance coming from strength. In this context, he highlighted the need for the US, other G7 and G20 countries, and Europe to intervene, and for Europe to effectively use its economic instruments. It is believed that sanctions targeting Russia's energy sector, oil fleet, and financial system will play a key role in preventing aggression.

On the other hand, Zelenskiy added that increasing defense capacity is as essential as diplomatic pressure to stop the attacks. Emphasizing the strengthening of air defense systems, he stated that closing the skies with obtained technology is the biggest factor in preventing civilian casualties. Requesting new support from allies to increase current air defense presence, Zelenskiy stressed that Ukraine continues its struggle with determination to protect territorial integrity. Finally, he thanked every leader who remains active and supports Ukraine's justified struggle, adding that international solidarity is the greatest source of strength in this difficult process.
