Zurovec: Možemo cards distributed to children, this is party propaganda for the little ones

Events organized for children at the Maksimir Cultural and Information Center (CKIM) located in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, have been the subject of harsh criticism from local politicians. Making a statement regarding the issue, Zurovec strongly condemned the situation, claiming that promotional cards of the Možemo party were distributed to children during the event. According to the official's statement, exposing the youngest children, who are not yet of school age, to a political party's material is considered an extremely concerning situation. Such initiatives directly contradict the fact that children should grow up completely free and impartial, away from political views. Zurovec emphasized that they believe the incident was a consciously planned political propaganda attempt rather than a simple distribution error.

The Maksimir Cultural and Information Center, where the controversial events in question took place, is normally tasked with providing various artistic, educational, and cultural activities for the local community and especially for children. However, such institutions facilitating the distribution of materials aimed at recruiting for political parties is seen as a behavior contrary to the institution's primary purpose. Considering children's developmental processes, it is essential to provide a completely non-partisan, inclusive, and impartial educational environment in such institutions. The promotion of any political party in these cultural centers, which utilize public resources, has caused huge public outrage. Critics state that this incident has damaged the institution's reputation and severely shaken public confidence in the administrative cadres.

The Možemo party stands out as a green-left political movement that has recently risen in Croatia and established a strong voter base, especially in large cities. However, the party's name and materials reaching young children have generated a defensive reaction among the conservative and sensitive segments of society. When the belief that politics belongs in discussion environments among adults, not on the streets or in homes, is shaken by such events, political polarization deepens further. This determined stance of civil society paves the way for authorities to take the incident more seriously and apply the necessary administrative sanctions.

As a result, this incident has once again demonstrated how vital the ban on political propaganda in public spaces where children are present is. The transfer of partisan activities to children's educational and play areas has turned into a crisis that tests the transparency and impartiality boundaries of not only the relevant party but the entire local governance approach. Investigating the matter transparently, rather than covering it up by authorities, will be the most appropriate step to soothe the public's conscience. Preventing similar situations in the future and creating public spaces completely cleansed of politics, focusing solely on the pure development of children, is the common responsibility of society. This debate experienced in Zagreb serves as a striking reminder for the whole world that child-focused institutions must be separated from partisan politics with strict boundaries.
