Billion-euro investment activity and major acquisitions in the European technology ecosystem

Europe-based technology companies completed over 50 investment rounds exceeding 1 billion euros this week. An intense flow of capital was observed, particularly in artificial intelligence-focused ventures and defensive technologies (defence-tech). The 450 million dollar investment round of CuspAI, backed by Jeff Bezos and Sovereign AI, was among the most striking headlines of the news.

Significant acquisitions and mergers in the technology sector also remained on the agenda during this period. Swedish company Einride strengthened its position in the sector by acquiring electric vehicle charging venture Flipturn for 38 million dollars. Meanwhile, the UK-based government technologies (govtech) group ETG decided to expand its portfolio by acquiring Lightning Reach.

On the investor side, the importance given to defense technologies is noteworthy. While Airbus led a 500 million euro European defense technology fund, Resist.UA launched a 50 million euro fund to scale its defensive technologies, which have passed field tests in Ukraine. Additionally, in the UK, the inclusion of the artificial intelligence minister in the cabinet and the abolition of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) signaled a new era in the country's technology governance.
