Constitutional Amendment Crisis in Bangladesh Parliament: Opposition Walks Out of Session

In the Bangladesh National Parliament, an attempt to establish a Constitutional Amendment Committee led to intense debate and tension. Opposition leader Dr. Şefikur Rahman, who voiced demands for the formation of the committee and the implementation of the referendum results, left the parliament along with the members of parliament.

Minister of Interior Selahaddin Ahmed, who evaluated the opposition's stance as 'unconstitutional' and 'emotional politics', launched a harsh criticism. Additionally, addressing the allegation that the members of parliament took two different oaths, the Minister questioned the legal validity of this situation and provided a clear response to the members of parliament.

The Minister of Interior argued that the main expectation of the people is the annulment of the fifteenth constitutional amendment and that the legislature must achieve this. He stated that even if there are high court decisions, the country cannot move forward without the parliament directly amending the constitution.
