El Nino's Impact on Peru's Fishing Sector

Peru's fishing sector has been negatively affected by El Nino. In June, the sector experienced a 51.94% decline, and in the first six months, a 33.15% decrease was observed. The Ministerio de la Produccion declared a 120-day state of emergency and announced that the state will provide support to the sector. El Nino's effects are not limited to the fishing sector, but can also have negative impacts on the economy. According to Thorne & Associates' calculations, El Nino's negative effects on the economy can reach up to 0.78 percentage points.
