Armed clashes in Haiti result in over 600 deaths

Armed clashes between groups in Haiti have resulted in the deaths of over 600 people and the sexual assault of 176 women and girls. According to a United Nations report, these incidents occurred mainly in the Cité Soleil region.

The armed groups in Haiti control 85% of the capital, Puerto Principe. In the Cité Soleil region, hundreds of people were injured and 18,000 people were forced to leave their homes. United Nations officials state that these incidents have worsened with the increase in alliances between armed groups. Additionally, it has been reported that women and girls between the ages of 10 and 71 were sexually assaulted in these incidents.
