India's First Private Space Rocket Vikram-1 in Orbit

Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 rocket was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on 18 July 2026 and reached a low Earth orbit of 450 kilometres. This is the successful launch of India's first private space rocket into orbit.

Vikram-1 succeeded in its first attempt and India became the third country to have private space companies with independent orbital launch capability. Skyroot Aerospace, a Hyderabad-based company, has demonstrated India's capability in the space industry and the impact of the government's policies.
