Death toll rises to 23 in Japan earthquake

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake in southwestern Japan has left at least 23 people dead. Authorities in Kumamoto prefecture reported that at least 63 people were injured and 5 were seriously injured in the aftermath of the earthquake. The earthquake caused damage, including an explosion at a shopping center, the collapse of a factory chimney, and the destruction of homes. Rescue teams continue to work in the Kumamoto region, but time is running out.
