MDL Violation in Korea

North Korean soldiers crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) on the eastern front of Korea, prompting the South Korean military to fire warning shots for the first time this year. The North Korean soldiers were on patrol when they crossed the MDL and retreated north after the warning shots. This is the first warning shot incident this year.

The South Korean military fires warning shots when North Korean soldiers approach or cross the MDL. Last year, there were 17 incidents of North Korean soldiers crossing the MDL, but there had been no such incidents this year until now.

This situation can be interpreted as North Korea having largely completed its work in the area near the MDL by the end of last year.
