20-year-old youth injured in inflatable boat explosion in Bodrum loses his life

20-year-old Mert Özcan, who came from Aydın's Köşk district to Muğla's Bodrum district to work, lost his life as a result of a tragic work accident. The explosion in the auxiliary inflatable boat belonging to the ship where the young man worked caused great shock and sorrow in the region. Özcan, who had been receiving treatment in the hospital since the day of the incident, 8 July, could not be saved despite all the efforts of the doctors, plunging the surroundings into deep mourning. This incident, in which the investigation continues, went down in history as a tragedy that also came to the fore in terms of occupational safety.

The tragic incident occurred on 8 July at noon in the Yalıkavak Marina area of Bodrum. According to the information obtained, cleaning work was being carried out at that time on an auxiliary inflatable boat, approximately 8 meters long, belonging to a motor yacht. However, due to a technical malfunction that has not yet been fully clarified, the boat's gas lever got stuck and it moved uncontrollably. The explosion occurred as a result of the out-of-control boat suddenly lurching forward and then violently crashing into the pier.

At the moment of this violent explosion, 20-year-old Mert Özcan, who was on the boat carrying out the cleaning duty, suffered very severe injuries. Upon citizens in the vicinity immediately reporting the situation to the relevant authorities, emergency rescue teams were dispatched to the area. The medical teams, who arrived at the scene shortly, performed first aid on the injured youth. However, considering the severity of the young man's injuries, it was decided that he should be immediately transferred to a fully equipped hospital in Bodrum, accompanied by an ambulance.

The young man, who was taken to the hospital, was kept in the intensive care unit under the supervision of specialist doctors. Despite the days-long efforts of the medical team and all medical interventions applied, Mert Özcan could not hold on to life. Despite all the interventions made by the doctors and the ongoing hopeful wait, the young man unfortunately lost his battle for life. This bitter news was devastating for his family and loved ones who had been praying and waiting for his recovery throughout his hospital stay.

It was learned that Mert Özcan was registered in the population of Koçak Mahallesi, affiliated with Aydın's Köşk district, and that his family lived there. The tragic death of the young man, who was only 20 years old, caused great sorrow and mourning in his hometown Köşk and among all his relatives. On the other hand, it was announced that a comprehensive investigation was launched by the authorities regarding this fatal work accident that occurred in the Bodrum district. It was reported that the investigation continues in detail to investigate the technical causes of the explosion and the possibilities of possible negligence.
