Suspect arrested for sexual assault on young woman in Samsun

In the incident that occurred at around 22.30 on the evening of 9 July 2026 in the Yenimahalle neighborhood of Samsun's Canik district, a young woman named N.U. (27) was followed by an unidentified driver while walking home after leaving her workplace. Allegedly, the suspect first approached the young woman in his vehicle, made various excuses, and invited her into his car. Unable to refuse the offer or finding herself in a difficult situation, the woman was made to get into the suspect's vehicle. After the sexual assault, which took place inside the vehicle and caused severe trauma, the suspect quickly fled the area. Following the terrifying moments she experienced, the victimized young woman immediately reported the situation to the police.

Following the report of the incident, the Samsun Emniyet Müdürlüğü took action and launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter. Teams from the Canik İlçe Emniyet Müdürlüğü Suç Önleme ve Soruşturma Büro Amirliği began examining the security cameras in the area one by one. Additionally, statements were taken from citizens in the area where the incident occurred, and witness testimonies were meticulously evaluated. As a result of these detailed technical and physical surveillance efforts, the suspect's identity was determined in a short time. The teams conducting the investigation organized a large-scale operation to apprehend the suspect.

Along with the organized operation, a suspect named A.B.Ö. (24) was successfully apprehended and detained by security forces. After the detention procedures were completed, the suspect was referred to the Samsun Adliyesi for his statement to be taken and for the judicial process to continue. During his interrogation at the courthouse, A.B.Ö. stated that he completely rejected the sexual assault charges brought against him. However, the victim's statements, camera footage, and other collected evidence revealed a different aspect of the incident. Despite the suspect's denial, the existing evidence in the case file was sufficient to deepen the investigation and shape the judicial process.

After evaluating the evidence in the file and the victim's statements, the duty court decided to arrest the suspect. The court cited strong suspicion that A.B.Ö. committed the alleged crime of 'sexual assault' and the possible risk of tampering with evidence as justification. With this decision, the arrested suspect was sent to the prison he was placed in, thus initiating the judicial process. It was learned that the victimized young woman is tracking her rights accompanied by her lawyers and receiving psychological support. The incident also caused concern and anxiety among the local public, bringing up the necessity of increasing security measures.

Such harassment and assault incidents have once again drawn attention to the dangers women may face, especially when walking alone on the street late at night.
