Large Increase Made to Social Assistance Payments As of Temmuz

Aile ve Sosyal Hizmetler Bakanı Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş officially announced that a comprehensive increase was made in social assistance payments following the update of the civil servant salary coefficient in Temmuz. It was stated that the strengthening of the support provided to citizens in need within the framework of the social state understanding continues, and the new amounts have started to be deposited into the accounts of the beneficiaries as of Temmuz. The regulation, which covers a wide range from home care assistance to elderly and disability pensions, aims to alleviate the economic burden of low-income families. The increases made were shaped by taking into account inflation and the rise in the cost of living. Thus, social support programs, from which millions of citizens directly benefit, have been made stronger.

One of the most notable items of the regulation was the increase in the monthly payments made to elderly and disabled citizens. According to the new amounts, the elderly pension was increased from 5 thousand 103 lira to 5 thousand 793 lira. The monthly payment received by individuals with a disability rate of 70 percent and above was also updated from 7 thousand 655 lira to 8 thousand 689 lira. In addition, the disability relative pension paid to the relatives who take care of disabled individuals under the age of 18 was increased at the same rate, reaching 5 thousand 793 lira.

A significant increase was also achieved in the payments that closely concern approximately 516 thousand people receiving home care services. Valid for the Temmuz-aralık period, the home care assistance amount was increased from 13 thousand 878 lira to 15 thousand 755 lira. Bakan Göktaş stated that a total payment of 48,6 billion lira was made within this scope during the year, emphasizing the importance the state gives to care services. This increase is expected to significantly alleviate the economic hardships of families with individuals in need of severe care. The increase in home care salaries stands out as a part of policies that encourage families to care for their relatives at home with consolation without sending them to institutional care.

It was also announced that a significant improvement was made in the Social and Economic Support (SED) payments provided for the children of families in need. The support amount provided per child within the scope of SED was increased from 9 thousand 723 lira to 11 thousand 38 lira, taking steps towards strengthening child welfare. This payment helps especially low-income families to meet the basic needs of their children and to adapt to social life. In addition, the average monthly payment made to foster families per child was increased from 15 thousand 532 lira to 17 thousand 632 lira. This regulation aims to increase interest in the foster family system and to encourage children under state protection to grow up in a family environment.
