Night swimming tragedy in Arno River in Pisa: Lifeless body of 24-year-old young man found

In the city of Pisa, Italy, influenced by the hot weather, 24-year-old Moroccan youth Moulat Anas, who entered the Arno River during the night hours, could not come out of the water again. In the incident that occurred on the night between Sunday and Monday, the young man was spending time with a group of friends in the Lungarno Mediceo area on the bank of the river. It was reported that the youths who entered the river with their friends fell asleep on the riverbank after swimming. When they woke up, the group, noticing that their friend was not with them, immediately became concerned and reported the situation to the authorities. As a result of the large-scale search efforts initiated at the scene, the young man's lifeless body was found in the river waters.

On the night of the incident, it was stated that the youths were overwhelmed by the excessive heat and decided to swim in the river to cool off. The young man named Moulat Anas was of Moroccan nationality, was only 24 years old, and was spending time with his friends on the bank of the Arno River in the center of Pisa. According to initial information, the group fell asleep to rest on the shore after swimming in the river, and during this time, it was noticed that Anas had disappeared in the river. It has not yet been fully clarified whether the youths' swimming in the river was a game or to protect themselves from the heat. However, it once again became apparent how dangerous such careless behavior in the river during the night hours can be.

Following the notification to the authorities immediately after the friends noticed the young man's disappearance, Pisa Emniyet Müdürlüğü teams were rapidly dispatched to the area. Considering the seriousness of the situation, dive teams from the fire department center in Pisa were called to the area, and search efforts were started at 09.33 in the morning in the Lungarno Mediceo area. The search operation was conducted under the coordination of the Pisa Valiliği, and fire department teams by land, dive specialists from Floransa, and a fire helicopter from Bologna havalimanı were dispatched to the scene. Search activities, intensified at the point where the young man was last seen alive and in its surroundings, continued for hours. Following intense and meticulous search efforts, dive teams managed to find the lifeless body of the 24-year-old young man in the waters of the Arno River. The body was found under the river waters, at a point very close to the area indicated by the young man's friends. The initial hypothesis of the incident is that the young man drowned and lost his life; however, a detailed investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death. The body was seized by the prosecutor's office and will be subjected to an autopsy, and the exact cause of death will be clarified as a result of this procedure. Public order teams affiliated with the Pisa Emniyet Müdürlüğü are continuing the investigation to illuminate all aspects of the incident.

Authorities announced that this tragic incident has no connection with another report made in the same river the previous day. On Saturday at 22.20, in the Pietroconti region of the Pontedera municipality, a fisherman claimed to have seen a body in the river and raised the alarm. Following this initial report, search efforts were conducted on the banks and in the waters of the Arno River by Pisa fire department teams and dive specialists, but they were suspended when nothing could be found. The discovery of the young Moroccan's lifeless body, unfortunately, caused another tragedy to occur in Pisa's lively nightlife on summer nights. This incident bitterly demonstrated how careless swimming in rivers and open waters poses great dangers, especially on hot summer days.
