Tokat's Zero Waste Campaign Brings Hope to Disabled

The Tokat Municipality has set an exemplary project by blending environmental awareness with social solidarity. The "Zero Waste Collection Campaign," organized by the Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate within the scope of World Environment Day events on June 5, initiated a major recycling mobilization in the city. Thousands of plastic caps were collected, and the participants who collected the most caps were awarded wheelchairs to be delivered to those in need. This initiative aims both to increase environmental consciousness and to facilitate the lives of disabled citizens. Municipal officials plan to make the campaign a tradition every year.

A proud ceremony was held at the Tokat Municipality Social Facilities with the participation of Deputy Mayor Haydar Alpat. The campaign, which attracted great interest across the province and was held for the second time this year, sent tons of collected plastic caps to recycling facilities. The wheelchairs purchased with the income from these caps were delivered to their owners at the ceremony. Emotional moments were experienced during the ceremony, and participants expressed their wish for such social responsibility projects to continue. Deputy Mayor Alpat thanked all the people of Tokat in his speech.

The champions of the campaign were as follows: First place, Ayşe Kozakoğlu on behalf of the students of Şehit Mustafa Çalışkan Primary School; second place, Mehmet Kaya; third place, Aslıhan Karasu. The environmentally friendly participants who ranked received the wheelchairs they won to be delivered to citizens with special needs. These individuals set an example by making significant contributions to the campaign. The participation of school students, in particular, was considered an important step in developing environmental awareness among younger generations.

Emphasizing the importance of the project, Tokat Mayor Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu stated that local governments attach great importance to sustainable environmental policies: "The zero waste approach is a vital step for preventing waste, reducing waste amount, and spreading recycling to all segments of society. As Tokat Municipality, we are strengthening our recycling efforts every day with integrated waste management. This year, we combined our project with social responsibility and touched the lives of our citizens with special needs." Mayor Yazıcıoğlu thanked all fellow citizens, students, and teachers who supported the campaign.

This meaningful project in Tokat has shown that zero waste and recycling can be used not only for the environment but also to provide social benefits. Thanks to the campaign, both nature was contributed to and the mobility of disabled individuals was increased. Municipal officials aim to reach more people with similar projects in the coming years. Such initiatives serve as an inspiring example of how social solidarity and environmental awareness can be strengthened together.
