Trump Appoints Will Scharf to White House Counsel

United States President Trump has appointed Will Scharf to the White House Counsel. Scharf will begin his duties on September 1. Trump stated that Scharf loves his country and respects the law. The White House Counsel provides counsel on legal and policy matters related to the Presidency, serving as a liaison between the Department of Justice and the White House. Scharf previously served as a federal prosecutor and represented himself in numerous legal proceedings, including cases before the US Supreme Court. The duties of the White House Counsel include managing presidential pardons, judicial appointments, reviewing laws, and handling Congressional investigations and lawsuits against the President. Trump had previously appointed Scharf as the chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) in July 2025, which is responsible for the construction and major renovation of federal buildings in the Washington area.
