The Turgutreis Book and Literature Festival, organized by YAYDER, continues to bring together readers, authors, and publishers with high attendance on its fifth day. Having opened its doors on 1 July and hosting visitors until 15 July, the festival has practically transformed the Turgutreis Square in Bodrum into a vibrant cultural center. Within the scope of the event, it was not limited to just exhibiting and selling books; a program full of book signing sessions, interviews, poetry recitals, and specially prepared activities for children was also offered. Alongside nearly 45 local authors living in Bodrum, many famous authors from different cities in Turkey also had the opportunity to meet with festival visitors. This comprehensive organization reveals the cultural and literary richness of Bodrum, a popular holiday destination in the summer months.

One of the most striking features of the festival was the intense interest shown by authors residing in the region. The importance of Bodrum being known not only for its sea, sands, and nightlife, but also for its deep-rooted literary history was emphasized. It was demonstrated that these lands, which host important figures in literary history such as Halikarnas Balıkçısı, still possess a strong vein of authors who produce, think, and write today. Beyond signing their books, the participating authors engaged in sincere conversations with their readers, establishing a direct cultural connection. Additionally, the participation of guest authors from different cities significantly enriched the cultural diversity of the festival.

Ali Avcu, the General President of YAYDER, who took a pioneering role in organizing the event, stated that the main purpose of the organization is to add momentum to the cultural and artistic life of Bodrum. Avcu emphasized that book fairs are not merely book sales points organized with purely commercial concerns; on the contrary, they are areas of intellectual exchange where readers, authors, and publishers meet on common ground. Stating that this distinct atmosphere formed in Turgutreis Square is a clear indication of the strong bond the people of Bodrum have with books, Avcu expressed that they find the strong presence of local authors in the field extremely valuable. According to the executive, such organizations assume a great mission in terms of strengthening the cultural memory of the city.

Selçuk Arslan, the Aegean Representative of YAYDER, who spoke on behalf of the cultural vision of the organization, pointed out that Bodrum's tourism potential should be carried into the future along with its cultural, artistic, and literary identity. Reminding that this historical city has inspired many artists and pens from the past to the present, Arslan added that this identity needs to be further strengthened. Stating that the memory of a city will stay alive through the stories told and the works produced in that city, Arslan noted that making the works of local authors visible on such platforms is of vital importance for the development of regional literature. Journalist-author Zülal Atagün, addressing the participants, stated that book fairs are indispensable gatherings that grow the culture of reading and establish direct and sincere communication between the reader and the author.

Author Necmi Aksu, one of the names who met with his readers at the festival, noted that literary events also nourish social sensitivity and awareness of the right to life. Stating that he deals with the love of animals, respect for nature, and the common existence of living beings in his works, Aksu expressed that book fairs offer unique opportunities to directly explain these important issues to society. The author emphasized that young people and children, in particular, should approach animals not only with love but also with a deep sense of responsibility. The Turgutreis Book and Literature Festival, which will remain open until 15 July, will resolutely continue to host its visitors with its rich program and fulfilling events in the remaining days. Throughout this process, Turgutreis Square will continue its existence as a vibrant area where literature and culture beat at the heart, and all its lovers meet freely.
