Driver who killed on sidewalk in Eskişehir claimed in defense that brakes failed

In the tragic accident that occurred in May in the Odunpazarı district of Eskişehir, a car driven by Emine A. lost control and hit 35-year-old Gökçe Kurtulmuş, who was walking on the sidewalk. Kurtulmuş, who was crushed between the vehicle and the wall of a workplace, lost her life, while the driver Emine A. was injured.

The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against her for the crime of 'causing death by negligence', demanding a prison sentence of 2 to 6 years, was held. The detained defendant Emine A. claimed in her defense at the court that her vehicle's brakes failed and the steering wheel locked. Stating that she did not see the person she hit, the defendant claimed that she deliberately steered towards a pole to avoid hitting people.

Following the defense and the statements of the lawyers, the court panel decided to continue the detention of the defendant and postponed the hearing. Türkan Uzcan, the mother of Gökçe Kurtulmuş who lost her life, stated that her daughter lost her life on the pedestrian sidewalk, which is supposed to be the safest place, and demanded that justice be served.
