Man who fell from cliffs while collecting plants in İstanbul Bağırganlı loses his life

Originally born and raised in Sakarya's Semerciler Mahallesi, 50-year-old Veysel Kol had moved to İstanbul Beykoz, where his wife's family lived, about two to three years ago to continue his life there. While a large part of his family still resides in Sakarya, it is known that Kol was trying to build a new life in Beykoz. The tragic incident that occurred on Perşembe emerged when the family's routine excursion plan turned into a disaster. On the day of the incident, Kol came to the Bağırganlı coast with his wife and 11-year-old daughter. However, it was later understood that the family's purpose for being there was not just to enjoy the view or take a walk, as alleged.

According to the information obtained, Veysel Kol and his wife were interested in preparing various herbal medicines from plants in nature. The reason Kol climbed the steep and rugged cliffs on the coast was that he wanted to collect the special flowers and plants they needed. While advancing carefully in the rocky area for this purpose, the unfortunate man lost his balance when the stone he stepped on suddenly slipped while he was searching for plants. Rolling down from a height of meters amidst the desperate screams of his wife and young daughter, Kol tried to hold onto the surrounding rocks during the fall. However, despite all his efforts, Kol was unsuccessful and crashed into the hard rocky ground, sustaining severe injuries.

Immediately after the incident, AFAD and medical teams were dispatched to the region. Veysel Kol, who was extracted from the difficult terrain with the intense efforts of the teams, was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital. However, despite all medical interventions made in the emergency department of the hospital, the 50-year-old man could not be saved and passed away. The race against time, which was lost despite all the doctors' interventions, ended with a bitter conclusion. The news of Kol's death plunged both his relatives remaining in Sakarya and his loved ones in İstanbul into deep mourning.

The funeral of Veysel Kol, the grandson of the late Yusuf Çavuş and the son of the late Mustafa Kol, was sent on his final journey with a ceremony held in İstanbul Beykoz. The funeral prayer, performed following the afternoon prayer at Kavacık Yıldırım Beyazıt Camii, was attended heavily by his loved ones. Attendees were seen experiencing emotional moments during the ceremony, and the body of the unfortunate man was later buried at Çavuşbaşı Mezarlığı. While the family's grief was immense at the funeral, the journey of Kol, who lost his life after falling from a height of meters, was completed amid tears.

This tragic accident prompted authorities to take immediate action, and the implementation of preventive measures was brought to the agenda. The Kocaeli Valiliği completely banned climbing and ascending the Bağırganlı cliffs to prevent similar accidents from recurring and to ensure public safety. Officials announced that entry to the area would not be allowed, warning citizens due to the dangerous structure of the specified region. Meanwhile, it was reported that a comprehensive investigation was launched by the Kandıra Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı regarding the incident, and the investigation is being conducted meticulously. Authorities stated that steps such as collecting evidence at the scene and examining witness statements are being taken as part of the investigation.
