Trump threatened to strike Iranian infrastructure in response to any ship attack in the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump announced that they would bomb bridges and power plants in Iran in retaliation for any ship attack by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. This statement, made on the Truth Social platform, serves as a warning that strategic infrastructure, including Tehran, will also be targeted. These threats come following the escalation of the conflict that resumed in the region on 7 July.

With the rising tensions, the price of a barrel of Brent crude oil surpassed 95 dollars, its highest level in six weeks. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and the threat posed by Houthi rebels in Yemen to Saudi ports have raised concerns in the markets regarding the global hydrocarbon supply. Thus, the short-term calm achieved through the temporary agreement signed between the two countries in mid-June was disrupted.

Since the start of the conflict, the US has targeted Iranian territory at numerous locations. These include Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, the southern port city of Sirik, and the areas where the Tabriz and Bushehr nuclear facilities are located. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the war with Iran has cost 37.5 billion dollars so far, while advocating for an additional budget request of 67 billion dollars, emphasized as urgent for the Pentagon.
