'Weaving' accident on Istanbul D-100 Highway: 2 injured, traffic closed

The traffic accident that occurred on the D-100 Highway in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district negatively affected transportation in the region and caused the highway to be closed to traffic for a while. At the center of the accident was an automobile driver who disregarded traffic rules and posed a risk to other vehicles while in motion. It was determined at the scene that the driver lost control while making a weaving maneuver in heavy traffic, collided with two different vehicles on the road, and then came to a stop after making a soft contact with direction barriers (bariyerler). This chain of contact resulting from the sudden and harsh maneuver caused other drivers to experience great panic and increased the severity of the accident.

Immediately after the accident, health and security teams were dispatched to the scene, and authorities confirmed that 2 people were injured, either trapped in the vehicle or affected by the impact of the collision. The injured were taken to surrounding hospitals after initial intervention by ambulances at the scene for treatment. Although no official statement has yet been made regarding whether the injured persons are in life-threatening condition, it was stated that their health conditions are stable and their lives are saved with the intervention of the teams. Due to the accident, the relevant section of the D-100 Highway was completely closed to traffic for security reasons in order to conduct examination and aid work. While the traffic teams directed drivers to alternative routes to prevent possible congestion on the road as a result of their work, it was observed that the drivers left on the road waited patiently. This closure, which lasted for a short time but locked the regional traffic, caused significant delays for those using this route, which is parallel to the TEM highway.

Within the scope of the judicial and administrative investigation initiated after the accident, police teams made detailed examinations at the scene to determine the cause of the accident. Camera footage and witness statements are being examined to determine whether the weaving maneuver made was a conscious traffic violation or driver negligence. It has once again been brought to light how dangerous aggressive driving behaviors are on main arteries such as the D-100 Highway and how they can lead to chain reactions following a minor mistake. Necessary reports have been prepared to determine the damage status of the vehicles involved in the accident and to initiate insurance processes, and official procedures have been started.

This incident brought warnings back to the agenda regarding the need for drivers to comply with speed limits and lane rules in Istanbul's heavy traffic. Experts emphasize that making squeezing maneuvers by approaching the vehicle in front too closely, especially while driving on main urban roads, poses a high risk for sudden braking and collisions.
