Nijerya Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa stated that the education sector is the area that benefits the most from the federal government's asset recovery program. Assets obtained from illicit proceeds are now planned to be used to improve student welfare and expand access to quality education. An official ceremony was held in Abuja for the transfer of the assets seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Ministry of Education. This transfer process is part of a strategy to reinvest illicit proceeds into projects that will directly improve the lives of Nigerians, especially children and youth. Minister Alausa emphasized that the head of state is extremely determined to ensure these resources are used for the public benefit.

Among the materials officially transferred to the ministry during the ceremony are 501 double-decker bed frames, 939 beds, and 12 wooden beds that came with the mattresses. The Minister stated that these items will significantly improve the accommodation conditions of students in colleges and other educational institutions across the country. The beds and items in question are planned to be distributed fairly and transparently to Unity Schools across the country. The conversion of seized assets into educational resources is considered a concrete reflection of the policy of turning illicit proceeds into opportunities to enhance the quality of education. Ministry officials believe this step will address infrastructure deficiencies and allow students to enjoy a more comfortable educational environment.

Minister Alausa also noted that education is at the center of the head of state's vision to build a one-trillion-dollar economy through continuous investments in human capital development. He recalled that in recent periods, upon the head of state's instruction, a seized university building was transformed into Kachia Uygulamalı Bilimler Üniversitesi instead of being sold. This new university has reportedly enrolled over 3.000 students to date in critical fields such as applied sciences, engineering, nursing, and health sciences. This institution, which provides new opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire the skills needed for national development, stands out as a major achievement in returning illicitly obtained assets to society. The government aims to further strengthen the country's human resources by taking similar steps.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, in his speech at the ceremony, announced that the assets in question were seized during 'Operation Eagle Flush', one of the largest cybercrime operations conducted by the commission towards the end of 2024. He stated that this large-scale operation resulted in the arrest of approximately 792 suspects, including foreign nationals. He noted that following investigations, the arrested individuals were prosecuted, and after being convicted, they were repatriated to their countries at the end of serving their sentences. Olukoyede added that this repatriation process is fully compliant with the provisions of the Proceeds of Crime Act and is transparently utilized for national development. The official stated that this situation can be interpreted as an indication of the importance given to the rule of law and the government's commitment to transparency.

The EFCC Chairman argued that children and youth are among the biggest victims of corruption and financial crimes, and therefore they are the ones who most deserve to benefit from the assets recovered from criminal enterprises. Previous interventions by the commission in the education sector include the transfer of the university building in Kachia and the provision of seed funding for the Nijerya Education Loan Fund. Additionally, it was announced that approximately 1.4 million students have benefited from the student loan scheme so far, receiving stipend and tuition support. Such financial supports are considered to play a critical role in alleviating the economic pressures that could drive vulnerable youth into cybercrimes and other financial offenses. The asset transfer process was officially finalized after EFCC and Ministry of Education officials signed a 'Release Deed', completing the procedure.
