Typhoon Bavi Caused the Cancellation of Hundreds of Flights in Eastern China

Typhoon Bavi negatively affected air transportation in the region as it made landfall in China's eastern Zhejiang province. Heavy rain and wind brought operations to a halt at airports in cities such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Ningbo. According to the local press, 45 airports across the country issued electrical storm warnings throughout the day.

According to Feichangzhun data, Shanghai-Pudong Airport operated at only 21 percent capacity, with 585 flights canceled and 592 flights delayed. Meanwhile, Shanghai-Hongqiao Airport operated at 44 percent capacity, where 235 flights were canceled and 461 flights were put on hold. In Wenzhou, where Bavi made landfall for a second time at midnight, the airport's operational level dropped to 15 percent.

Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan, which was expected to be affected as the typhoon previously passed nearby, presented a calmer picture compared to the previous day. While the airport in question maintained an operational capacity of 78 percent, it was reported that 83 flights were canceled. Hundreds of flight cancellations also occurred at Nanjing and Fuzhou airports.
