3 suspects detained in anti-smuggling operation in Gaziantep

Three suspects were detained in anti-smuggling operations conducted by gendarmerie teams in Gaziantep. Gaziantep Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams carried out a comprehensive study under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The operation was launched after it was determined that the suspects were engaged in smuggling activities. It was reported that necessary legal proceedings were initiated against the individuals detained within the scope of the operation. Authorities stated that inspections to prevent smuggling activities in the region continue with determination.

The operation was carried out as a result of the joint work of Şahinbey and Nizip district gendarmerie command teams. As a result of intelligence and surveillance work, it was determined that three individuals were trading in various smuggled goods. In simultaneous operations organized in the mentioned districts, raids were carried out on the addresses where the suspects were located. Detailed searches were carried out in the individuals' workplaces and the vehicles they used. Security forces announced that the operation was completed in a planned and successful manner.

A very large amount of smuggled goods was seized in the searches conducted. During the examinations of the vehicles and workplaces, a total of 96 kilograms of smuggled tobacco was found and confiscated. In addition, 12,200 filled cigarette tubes and 50 packs of smuggled cigarettes were among the other important materials seized in the operation. It was stated that these materials have a high market value and serve an illegal economy. The seized products were handed over to the relevant authorities as evidence.

Judicial processes were initiated against the three detained suspects. Police and gendarmerie units were directed to take the individuals' statements and investigate their other possible connections in the criminal arena. It was learned that serious charges are in question against the smugglers within the scope of the relevant customs and smuggling legislation. Judicial authorities are conducting a meticulous investigation to deepen the investigation following the capture of the suspects. The process is planned to continue without tolerating similar illegal activities in the region.
