KOM Operation in Kocaeli: Unlicensed Glock Pistols and a Luxury 'Change' Vehicle Seized

Kaçakçılık ve Organize Suçlarla Mücadele (KOM) Şube Müdürlüğü Gebze Grup Amirliği teams launched a comprehensive operation to cut off the influx of unlicensed weapons across the city and to apprehend individuals who obtain illicit gains by forging official documents. Following a long-term technical and physical surveillance, a suspect was identified who was believed to be both hiding weapons in his home and linked to the illicit vehicle market. Detailed work by the intelligence units confirmed the suspicion that the suspect was harboring numerous criminal elements. In this context, all necessary preparations for the operation were completed under the coordination of the Gebze Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı. Law enforcement forces sprang into action to simultaneously put an end to both weapons smuggling and vehicle fraud.

As part of the operation, KOM teams conducted a surprise dawn raid on the targeted address. The suspect was cornered and neutralized by the teams, after which detailed searches were initiated. During meticulous searches carried out in the residence and its outbuildings, numerous unlicensed firearms and ammunition were unearthed. Notably, a total of two firearms were seized during the searches, including 1 adet Glock marka 45 kalibre tabanca and 1 adet Glock marka 9 milimetre tabanca. Additionally, 2 adet şarjör belonging to these weapons, 52 adet 45 kalibre fişek, 53 adet 9 milimetre fişek, and 15 adet 7.65 milimetre fişek were secured by the security forces. It is assessed that the presence of these seized weapons on the streets posed a significant security threat.

Another notable detail during the raid was a luxury vehicle parked in front of the suspect's house. KOM and crime scene investigation experts found the luxury vehicle suspicious and initiated a detailed examination process. Upon meticulously checking the chassis numbers and registration documents, it was revealed that the vehicle's original identity information had been altered later. Investigations proved that the vehicle had been illicitly 'changed' (clone vehicle) using the records of another heavily damaged vehicle. It was determined that through this method, an attempt was made to legitimize the vehicle, which is thought to have been obtained through criminal means. Following the findings made by the experts, the vehicle was towed to the police parking lot to be preserved as evidence.

The detained suspect was taken to the Gebze İlçe Emniyet Müdürlüğüne to be interrogated, and his legal procedures were initiated there. The suspect was charged with '6136 Sayılı Ateşli Silahlar ve Bıçaklar ile Diğer Aletler Hakkında Kanun'a Muhalefet'. Furthermore, a large-scale judicial process was initiated for the crime of 'Resmi Belgede Sahtecilik' in connection with the status of the vehicle. During the legal process, all seized evidence is expected to be used during the trial of the suspect. Law enforcement sources stated that this operation both disrupted the activities of criminal organizations and eliminated elements that threaten public peace.

Following the operation, the Kocaeli Emniyet Müdürlüğü issued a statement to inform the public, delivering a message of resolve. The statement emphasized that a meticulous stance is being maintained against unlicensed weapons that directly threaten the safety of the streets. Additionally, it was noted that the fight against auto smuggling and forgery activities, which could cause significant grievances for citizens, will continue. Police teams stated that criminals will continue to be caught using advanced technical capabilities, even if they resort to new methods. Such operations are aimed at serving as a serious deterrent to individuals with the potential to commit crimes. It was once again underlined that law enforcement agencies will not shy away from any sacrifice in ensuring the safety of citizens' lives and property.
