Full Government Support for Katerini Municipality's Infrastructure Projects

Member of the Yunanistan Parlamentosu Anna Mani-Papadimitriou and Mayor of Katerini Yiannis Doumos held a comprehensive working meeting aimed at accelerating infrastructure projects in the city. During this meeting, which aimed to improve the daily quality of life of citizens, the financial support provided by the central government to the region and the course of current investments were discussed in detail. The two figures demonstrated a joint will for new interventions and projects by further strengthening their existing cooperation. Not only completed or ongoing projects but also new investment ideas to be implemented in the future were discussed at the meeting. Such local government-MP coordinations are of great importance for the sustainability of regional development.

At the meeting, important projects completed with government funding and put into service for the people of Katerini were proudly summarized. Chief among these is the second sports and swimming facility, which was equipped with a new heating and cooling system with heat pumps and had its energy efficiency improved with an expenditure of 700.000 Euro. Additionally, the municipality's digital transformation project, financed by the Dijital Yönetişim Bakanlığı with a budget of 1.230.000 Euro, was successfully completed. This digital step paved the way for much faster solutions to be offered to citizens by ensuring the modernization of local government services. Finally, the modern tartan flooring work, long awaited by the sports community and laid at the first sports facility with an 800.000 Euro allocation from the İçişleri Bakanlığı, was also completed.

In addition to the success of the completed projects, it was stated that gigantic investment projects that will bring the city together with modern infrastructure are also in the implementation phase. Among these, the energy upgrade work of the municipal building, which is in the proposal evaluation phase within the scope of the Orta Makedonya Bölge Planı and has a budget of 3.200.000 Euro, stands out. The coastal protection project, for which approximately 3.300.000 Euro is planned to be allocated to protect the Katerini coasts against erosion and to construct breakwaters, is a critical step in terms of environmental sustainability. Furthermore, the Müzik Okulu, which will be built with a build-operate-transfer model worth 8.000.000 Euro in partnership with the Altyapı ve Ulaştırma Bakanlığı, will accelerate the cultural life of the region. In addition, the construction of the Sekizinci İlkokul with a cost of 4.000.000 Euro and the procurement of the Kültür Merkezi's audio-visual equipment worth 1.450.000 Euro are among the most important educational and cultural investments of the near future.

In the later hours of the meeting, in-depth consultations were held on how to effectively evaluate available funding instruments and how project production processes could be optimized. The reports shared by the parties reveal that the development momentum of the region will increase significantly if existing financial resources reach their targets accurately and efficiently. On the other hand, new project proposals that are currently in the design phase and whose financing has not yet been clarified were also discussed, and strategies were developed to bring them to life. The harmony between local dynamics and the central government created a vision that will help accelerate bureaucratic processes and attract more resources to the city. The participants emphasized that they adopted a planning approach that would meet not only the current needs of Katerini but also the infrastructure expectations of future generations.

Following her official contacts, Member of Parliament Mani met with civil servants and employees working at the Katerini Municipality and inspected on-site how daily operations are conducted. She conveyed her thanks to them for their dedicated services to the local community and their selfless work for the public benefit. She emphasized that their efforts, both in the field and at the desk, are the fundamental element that ensures the flawless implementation of all these gigantic projects. The visit was extremely fruitful in terms of both demonstrating a solid spirit of coordination among managers and increasing the motivation of public personnel.
